Our Seven Shared Values

As a confessional member of Sovereign Grace Churches, we embrace the following seven convictions.  We believe they are a faithful application of our biblical values and shape our local practices and ministries regardless of our context.

They define what it means to be a Sovereign Grace church.

Gospel-Centred

It’s all about Jesus. From beginning to end, the Bible points us to the amazing reality that God has been merciful to sinners by sending Jesus. We want to display God’s glory by celebrating, proclaiming, and living the gospel through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Reformed

Based on the Scriptures alone, we believe that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, for the glory of God alone. God has graciously chosen a people from every tribe, tongue, and nation. We are glad recipients of his marvelous grace.

Continuationist

To do what Jesus has commanded us to do, we need power. Thankfully, God himself provides this power through the Holy Spirit who lives in every believer. The Holy Spirit empowers us for life and mission and gives supernatural gifts to build up the church, just as he did in the book of Acts.

Complementarian

Men and women, while different, are both created in the image of God to display the glory of God by reflecting the relationships of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as well as the relationship of Christ to the church. According to God’s good design, men and women play distinct, but complementary, roles in the church and the home.

Elder-Governed

Jesus Christ reigns as head over the church, and he gives his church elders (pastors) to govern and lead under his authority. We believe that men, qualified by both character and gifting, are to serve as elders by loving God’s people.

Interdependent

In the Bible, we see the importance of interdependence among God’s churches. At Sovereign Grace Church, Windhoek, we seek to express a similar interdependence with other Sovereign Grace churches throughout the world, through our common fellowship, mission, and governance. This allows us to do far more together than we ever could alone.

Missional

We believe Jesus has called the whole church to be on mission until the day that he returns. That means to be proactive in reaching both believers and unbelievers alike with the Gospel through evangelism, and so God’s mission is not an extra-curricular activity to us, but a lens through which we see and approach all of our lives.

Our Statement of Faith

Being a confessional congregation also means that we have a shared Statement of Faith among all our churches.  Sovereign Grace Church Windhoek is committed to support and adhere to the Statement of Faith in all we do.  To the best of our knowledge, we believe it to be rigorously comprehensive, biblically faithful, yet plainly understood.

That being said, we stand and have our being, ultimately, under the supremacy of God’s Word which is the only infallible truth and authority for the church.

what we believe

A Brief overview of our Doctrine

Scripture

All of scripture is breathed out by God, being accurately delivered through various human authors by the inspiration and sovereign agency of the Holy Spirit.

God

The one true God eternally exists as three persons–Father, Son, and Holy Spirit–infinitely excellent and all-glorious. Each person is fully God, sharing the same deity, attributes, and essential nature, yet there is but one God.

Mankind

All human beings are made in the image of God. Despite the effects of the fall on sinful humanity, all people remain God’s image bearers, capable of fellowship with him and possessing intrinsic dignity and value at every stage of life from conception to death.

The Gospel

The gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ and all that he did in his life, death, resurrection, and ascension to accomplish salvation for humanity. Therefore, the gospel is not a human action or achievement but rather an objective, historical, divine achievement that remains true and unchanging regardless of human opinion or response.

Salvation

Salvation is a free gift that comes only by God’s grace, through faith in Jesus Christ alone. All people who turn from their sin and trust in Jesus Christ and his death on their behalf receives forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life.

The Local Church

The church exists to worship God, to edify and mature His people, and to bear witness to Christ and His kingdom in all the world. Governed by scripture, the church gathers for the teaching of the word, prayer, the sacraments, congregational singing, fellowship, and mutual edification through the exercise of spiritual gifts. The church’s mission is to make disciples of all nations, teaching them to observe all that Christ has commanded.
